When I was a tiny kid in the very early sixties, I was completely scared out of my shorts by Space Stuff. Low budget TV serials like Pathfinders to Mars or glimpses of Robby the Robot in excerpts from Forbidden Planet or The Invisible Boy would render me virtually invisible, too. The elements in this imagery were so convincing to me, that I considered them a serious threat to my cosy infant world. Pretty soon changed all that, though. By the time the Daleks arrived in '63, I was eating this stuff. And I'm still not sick of it, despite my taste for what Frank Zappa referred to as 'Cheepnis'. |
