I had the idea for this strip some time in 1982, and fiddled about with ideas on different levels, on and of for years. A strange choice of subject matter for someone with zero knowledge of medicine (or, for that matter, space), but I was lured by its potential for weirdness. finally created a bunch of strips in 1988, and had the big idea of sending them to Starburst ('the Premier Magazine of Sci-Fi Entertainment'), and they've been running YDIS ever since. The central doctor has no name (although tentatively placed a name-block on the desk at which he sat in the very first installment, which says 'K.K.Smith.' I must have had a reason, which now escapes me. All 1 know is, that was never his desk!) He's occasionally menaced by the puny-bodied, but fearsome-headed Emperor Zygrud. pestered by the flatulent Blutarzian Balloon Beings, and made hot under the collar by Captain Sola Rawbitt, with whom he deeply and (perhaps) unrequitedly adores. I plan to expand this section with printable portraits of the characters and creatures, plus more stuff on sub-plots and origins (based on the input of my loyal public. or not, as the case may be!) Anyway, if you're a fan of SF? horror and fantasy entertainment, you will no doubt find Starburst right up your alley. |
