next image I thought up this idea about 20 years ago, but it wasn’t until 1988 that I developed it, and (with the help of my government surplus hypno-ray) convinced the editor of Starburst that it was just the thing to add a jocular touch to that excellent magazine of science-fiction and horror movie articles. I thought it would last six months, then they’d say, thanks, and goodbye. After 13 years and 150 installments, I threw in the towel. With my non-existent knowledge on the subjects of medicine, surgery, and interstellar physics, I was struggling to get past the expected six strips. I hung on because I had fun with it, and, on top of my fee, they sent me free copies of the mag. I stopped because each strip would sometimes take a full day to think up, script, draw and colour, and I was just getting too busy with other stuff. Also I was REALLY scraping that barrel for ideas.
Two of the strips featured here were printed as black line art in Starburst in the nineties, but I’ve coloured them just for you. You may prefer the original appearance. Oh well.
One of them contains a female character who cropped up sometimes, Doctor Monika. She was a grumpy, cruel, lazy, greedy chain-smoker, who, like Mercy Dash, had a strange hold on me, and I kept including her in the strip to alarm the other characters. In the very final YDIS, the main (nameless) doctor marries the gorgeous space babe, Captain Sola Rawbitt, but several years before, he was smitten by a rich and pretty alien princess, but she was stolen from under his nose by the greedy Monika.
The other features another of my favourite guests, Zygrud the Emperor. He went from being pretty big and scary on his first appearance, to being more weedy-bodied later on.

One day I will drop all these in Hi-Res. onto a CD-ROM, and make them available to my indulgent public.
Anyone out there interested in this idea?
